Direct Download Link For The Cleaner Trailer

If you suppose Samuel Jackson makes two kinds of films and they can be clearly catagorised, The Cleaner definitely belongs on the same side of the fence as Snakes, despite in many ways appearing to be a whole lot more serious. Download this first trailer and decide for yourself it deserves the same kind of geek fervour.

As ever, it's good to see Luis Guzman but I think this might fall short of Curdled, not to mention the upcoming Sunshine Cleaning, when it comes to films about crime scene tidy-ups.

Samuel L Jackson Is Nick Fury. And He's On Set Shooting Today

Kudos to Drew McWeeny, once again, for one hell of a scoop over at AintItCool. Apparently, Samuel L. Jackson will be taking on the role of Nick Fury for Marvel Movies, and today, he's on set shooting a scene as that character for the Iron Man movie.

A kind of cross-movie synergy between superhero movies has been a long time coming, but I can see it taking off in a big way within just the next two or three years. And I don't mean simply Avengers and Justice League style films, I mean special appearances from one character in another character's movie. Marvel have been manoeuvring on a business level in ways that have made this much easier, but there's always been the possibility of Superman in Batman, or vice versa, and I suppose there still is, even though Singer's film and Nolan's seem wildly incompatible.

I always got a kick out of Michael Keaton's Ray Nicolet appearing in both Jackie Brown and Out of Sight - not least because I love Michael Keaton. But I love Sam too, so even though I doubt very much that Iron Man will be anything like Out of Sight, much less Jackie Brown, this idea still appeals to me greatly.

Movie Minesweeper - The Flash Memory Edition

- The trailer for Resurrecting the Champ is now on YouTube. Wonder who uploaded that? Anyway, it'll be nice to see Sam Jackson as a down-and-out and a boxer in the same film.

- Jimmy Fallon has told Howard Stern his I Dream of Jeannie film is off. I found the link at Cinematical.

- Rockstar have responded to the BBFC's banning of their Manhunt 2 game. Can they appeal and turn this around?

- Steve Miner's Day of the Dead rehash is getting some reshoots. Hopefully the entire film, hopefully reshot by a completely different director.

- The Guardian are calling Woody Allen's next Midnight in Barcelona. It starts filming next month. In Barcelona. At Midnight. Possibly. Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson - two out of three ain't bad.

- Katie Holmes is pregnant again. Possibly. Her best years were ahead of her.

- Neil Gaiman doesn't think Shia LaBeouf is necessarily young enough (or young looking enough) to get the part of Sexton in Death and Me. He also suggests that Warner Independent might be bankrolling the film, not New Line...

- MySpace have launched their Miniside Network today. It's a repository of shortened episodes of old TV shows and... er... that's about it.

- The NYTimes piece on Marvel Movies is a must-see, if only for the picture of The Hulk, David Maisel and Iron Man.

- More details of the Twin Peaks Gold Box are surfacing.

- JoBlo have a pretty darn good Dark Knight set report.

The Alternative Endings Of 1408

It has slipped out in interview that the release version of 1408 features a different ending to the one originally filmed.

I know what each of the endings were - at least according to an e-mail I've received (which I think is supposed to remain anonymous). The remainder of this post is to be spoiler material, I'm afraid.

Cusack's Enslin character starts a fire in room 1408. In the originally filmed ending, he dies. After his funeral, Jackson's Olin finds the dictaphone recording of his experience. This was tested and reshot, apparently proving too much of a downer. Indeed, sveral endings were tried, before the release one was settled upon.

In this approved version, Enslin and his wife move into a beach house, having physically survived, but is tortured by his memories of what went on in the hotel room. This is similar to the short story as published, but whereas that plays as quite extreme - the man now as mad as the hotel room once was - this is likely to be toned down somewhat.

Even the rejected 'director's cut' version with the fire was created under heavy Weinstein control, and from what I've heard, Halfstrom has had a terrible time dealing with their insidious influence and grasping ways.

As expected.

The two versions are expected to play as full features, probably via branching, on the DVD release, though many, many more deleted scenes - both from the conclusion and elsewhere - are likely to be included as standalone items.

I'm a Scott Alexander and Larry Karazewski fan, not a Weinstein fan, so obviously, I'm not pleased to be hearing all of these details. None of this is much of a surprise, of course, but it is still very sad.

Short Spurts From A Black Snake

MoviesOnline, bless 'em, have posted a number of clips from Black Snake Moan. If they showed any more of Sam Jackson's persuasuve powers, it'd probably cure you of your nymphomania, through the screen.

Black Water Transit In... Er... Transit

Tony Kaye is reportedly negotiating to take over directing duties on Black Water Transit - a film that was just weeks away from shooting under Samuel Bayer's leadership. The New Orleans shoot will now be postponed until April while Kaye warms his seat and realligns the production's rails.

This adaptation of Carsten Stroud's novel was scripted by Doug Richardson, and Samuel Jackson and Bruce Willis are already signed to star.

Could Tony Kaye really, honestly be about to film a new fiction film? At last?

From High Snakes To High Stakes

I'm telling you this simply so I could write the above headline.

Snakes on a Plane director David R. Ellis' next film is High Stakes, about two young chaps in Vega who end up making a 'life threatening' bet. Samuel Jackson is said to be in talks to appear, his casting is far from confirmed.

Spike Lee Confirms Jamie Foxx And Eddie Murphy Are Definitely Not In The Running For James Brown Casting... But Who Is?

The Hollywood Reporter have dropped a tiny crumb of info about Spike Lee's forthcoming James Brown biopic. Confronting the director at an AFI lunch last Friday, they managed to squeeze the comment from him that neither Jamie Foxx nor Eddie Murphy were under consideration for the title role. Of course, there was no comment on who would be considered...

Now we've crossed Foxx and Murphy off of the list, who is left? Sam Jackson? Now surely The Hollywood Reporter would have asked about him too? And they've simply been asked to keep schtum? Maybe I'm living in an All The President's Men fuelled fantasy here, but if you ask me, we may have our man.

Black Snake Leak

bigscreenlittlescreen Ted (not to be confused with either Big Ted or Little Ted of Playschool fame) has popped up an apparently-leaked Black Snake Moan trailer, and personally, I found it quite persuasive, thank you.
