Be Kind Alive
The Be Kind, Rewind site is live now. Up in the left corner is a 'you name it, we shoot it' button. Clicking on this changes the page design with three currently available, and pictured below.
You'll recognise riffs on Boyz N the Hood and Rush Hour, I believe... but is the other design just familiar and derivative, or is it pastiching something in particular?

Direct Download Links For Be Kind, Rewind Trailer
As I posted the pics last night, the trailer wasn't yet live. But now it is.
Enjoy the official Be Kind, Rewind trailer in 480p, 720p or 1080p. It's a cruel world in which we have to wait months for delights like this. Delayed pleasure? No thanks.
Remember to right click and save the trailer as saveyourlocalpark.mov or similar to ensure it works.

Be Kind, Rewind Stills
Seven gorgeous images from Be Kind, Rewind have been released. Click on any of them to get the high-res version.
And naysayers said Robocop shouldn't be remade. They're eating humble pie now, I can tell you.
[EDIT: Now film ick also have a number of Michel Gondry sketches from the Be Kind, Rewind script, showing scenes and FX ideas]
[EDIT: And even more images direct from the film]

Gondry's Film Commitments
Following Jonathan Glazer's excellent Bravia ad from last summer, the third installment in the campaign was lined up for Michel Gondry. He's now passed, citing 'film commitments' as his reason for not being able to shoot the spot.
It seems that Be Kind, Rewind is all but mass duplicated and on the back of the van, so which commitments exactly? Is the Blondie movie about to shoot? Possibly.
Let's discount the Ripley film - is there anything else? Only Tokyo, the anthology film to shoot in the city. This is what I expect we'll find out: Gondry is about to shoot his slice of Tokyo before doing the Rewind press tour; then the Blondie movie will roll; then, possibly, a collaboration with Dan Clowes and Jack Black on The Death Ray. Maybe. Perhaps. If it all pans out.
At least we know he's going to be on set rolling film for one project or another any week now.
And the new Bravia spot, if you had been wondering, is now going to be directed by Frank Budgen. Not a bad choice, but I would have plumped for Antoine Bardou-Jacquet.

Poll Dance
The first film ick poll is over, the second is about to begin. Here's the results of the first go round - surprising, actually, as Be Kind, Rewind was out in front for a very long time. Perhaps my recent barrage of Beowulf info had something to do with this.

Trailer Details For Golden Compass, Be Kind Rewind And Rendition
MyNewPlaidPants is the blog of Jason Adams who seems like a pretty cool chap. Today, he sent me the following e-mail:
Hello, I'm stealing links from you all the time, but for a change. I've got something semi-worthwhile to share with you - I got to watch trailers for Be Kind, Rewind, Rendition, and a 10-minute extended trailer for The Golden Compass via that NYC Toyfare thing yesterday - I posted on them at my blog.
I just sorta rambled about what I saw but maybe you'll find a smidge of the info interesting.
And I certainly did. While I'll post his Be Kind, Rewind trailer description below you'll have to click over for the other two. And so you should.
So I got to see what looked like an early cut - the footage was pretty raw looking - of the trailer for Michel Gondry's next film, starring Jack Black and Mos Def as video store employees with a problem: namely, Jack Black's brain is magnetized and he's erased all the videos in their store.
The opening scene of the trailer sets this up - when Jack Black is in close-up the film actually goes all wavy like on an old, screwed-up videotape, which was a nice touch - and then we get on to the real business of the movie: namely, getting to watch Jack Black and Mos Def reenacting scenes from old movies.
A good chunk of time is spent watching them reenact scenes from Ghostbusters, including Jack Black's awful (in a funny way) take on that movie's familiar theme song - we get to hear Mos Def say "I got slimed" which was the highlight for me.
We see that their homemade versions become big hits in the neighborhood and suddenly the two of them become quasi-celebrities; there's a fun montage of scenes from their different movies - 2001 and Boyz In The Hood stand out in my memory, the latter involving Jack Black in an afro.
But then The Man, in the form of Sigourney Weaver - YAY! - shows up and threatens their new business with talk of copyright infringement and what not.
And then Mia Farrow shows up and says that these boy's movies got heart!
It was only a couple minutes long but it looks a thousand times mainstreamier than The Science of Sleep was (a movie I liked but didn't love). A fun trailer that has me hyped for the movie even more.

Movie Minesweeper - The Almost Everything Is A Movie Minesweeper These Days Edition
- JoBlo have a YouTube clip from after the credits of Pirates 3. Clearly, the clip was obtained illegally (not by JoBlo, but the original uploader) but, on the upside, it'll save you sitting through the end credits when really, all you'll want to do is get out of there and restart your circulation.
- MTV are bringing back Unplugged. The new epsiodes will apparently include Mary J. Blige, The Police, Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney and John Mayer.
- Mark Verheiden has announced that his Teen Titans script will find the kids at 'an interesting (and universal) crossroads in their lives'.
- Twitch were on an absolute role today. They've had pictures from Be Kind, Rewind (Mos Def and Jack Black about to bust some ghosts, it seems); Daybreakers; Eastern Promise; and Doomsday.
- Feed have Mike Maguire's Comcast ad. Download it and watch it 'all big' for the best effect.
- On June 10th, the Prince Charles Cinema will be given over to a reprise of the Hot Fuzztival. Hard Boiled at 11am, The Last Boy Scout at 1.45, Point Break at 4.30 and then (!) at 8pm, Hot Fuzz with a live audio commentary from Edgar and company.
- The Poor Things schedule is being rejigged just so Lindsay Lohan can be in the film. What a waste of effort.
- Broken Lizard's next will probably be The Babymaker.
- Time Magazine's Ocean's 13 interviews are a nice, sparky read.
- IESB loved Hostel 2 too.
- Animation Magazine have some clips from the US version of Creature Comforts.

Movie Minesweeper - The Is It Shia LaBeouf Or Karen Allen Who Has A Crystal Skull? Edition
- No link for this one, but here's the news anyway: Be Kind Rewind won't be released in the US until April 4th next year. That's a long time to be waiting for a film that is, essentially, completely finished. But don't worry - Eternal Sunshine faced similar delays.
- Enter the Phoenix is to get a US remake. Producer Andrew Tennebaum is quoted as saying "This movie should be remade for a bigger, broader audience" - what, bigger than the Chinese speaking world? That's ambitious.
- Letters from Iwo Jima screenwriter Iris Yamashita has apparently pitched a project she describes as "Big Fish meets Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".
- The official site for Criss Angel's Cement Block stunt is now live and will, apparently, be premiering clips from his upcoming 3 series of Mindfreak as well as, of course, hosting live webcam coverage of his upcoming trick.
- HorrorMovies dot CA have some new Resident Evil: Extinction pictures. Dusty.
- Inspector Rebus is retiring. I find it rather odd he hasn't be turned into a big screen character yet, despite the TV series.
- John Woo is expected to collaborate on a videogame with Deus Ex creator Warren Spector, and then turn the resulting title into a movie too. The game, Ninja Gold, is apparently based around the real-life involvement of Yakuza and Russian mafia in the theft of South African Gold.
- Daily Script have posted David Webb People's Sgt. Rock script draft from 1987. It is far, far better than it had any right to be - and it still got nixed. The subsequent drafts, by a number of other writers, have been considerably worse.
- The Silver Snail comic shop in Tornoto made a Muppet Show/Lord of the Rings hybrid window display, and have now posted some images online. Ham's Deep indeed.
- More Muppet/Movie crossovers (but no link this time, I'm afraid). Visitors to Disney theme parks will soon be able to buy Muppet Star Wars action figures - Piggy as Leia, Fozzie as Chewbacca, Beaker as C3-PO, Kermit as Luke and, best of all, Gonzo as Vader.
- The Guardian reveal the cynical machinations behind the Magicians soundtrack album.
- Expectations for Ratatouille's box-office are being managed carefully behind the scenes at Disney. Who cares how much money it takes? It's going to be tens, if not hundreds, of millions more than enough, so, really, end of conversation - right?
- Freema Agyeman doesn't appear to be leaving Dr.Who - but nobody is denying the stories that David Tennent is going to opt out of the series after five or six episodes in the 2008 run. Probably because he is. I wonder who will replace him?
- What's different in the Lego Star Wars compound edition? The word is out.
- Joan Cusack, Chris O'Donnell and Julia Ormond are the newest additions to the American Girl cast. Two of three 'aint bad. The full title is now, apparently Kitt Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery.

Be Kind, Read
Aint it Cool have a very positive and virtually spoiler-free test screening review of Be Kind, Rewind. Mos Def and Jack Black garner kudos for their comedy rapport and Gondry comes out smelling of roses.
