Movie Minesweeper - The Classic Bangladeshi Edition

- Robert Zemeckis' Beowulf will screen in 3D at IMAX venues as well as over 1000 digital screens across the US so, really, you have no excuse. Also, some posters for the film have been revealed, and they're quite striking in their way.

- Joel Siegel has passed away. A former roommate of Terry Gilliam and long time film critic, he recently became infamous for his walk-out protest during a screening of Clerks 2.

- Slate have a nice slideshow on 'the secrets of Brad Bird'.

- Penny Marsall is going back to the diamond (Is that apt slang? I don't know anything about sport at all) with a film about Effra Manley, the first woman inducted into the Baseball hall of fame. Apparently, Hilary Swank and Demi Moore are front runners for the lead.

- Liam Neeson is set to star in Richard Eyre's The Other Man opposite Juliette Binoche. Charles Wood has co-written the script with Eyre. I'm keen to see who will shoot this - Eyre has a great taste in cinematographers.

- Roland Emmerich's 10000 BC had pretty much fallen off of the radar, but MTV just picked up a blip.

- The Weinsteins have got their oar in the waters of Korean animation too, now.

- The Sun have spuriously misinterpreted Daniel Craig to suggest he's quitting Bond after the next film.

- Latino Review have Sam Raimi weighing up two options: The Grays or No Man's Land. They each feature alien invaders in some fashion or another.

- A paparazzi snap of Harrison Ford and Shia LaBeouf together on the Indiana Jones set has been unveiled.

- Jason O'Mara has taken the lead role in Life On Mars US.

- Kristen Bell has been snapped on the set of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, in which she stars with Russell Brand. Yes, that Russell Brand.

- The MPAA have filed law suits against two sites that help pirates do their dirty bidding.

- Jim Carrey's Sober Buddies seems to be in slightly bad taste.

- This is hilarious, and disturbing, and (almost definitely) not true : a Paris Hilton biopic is in development, to star Lindsay Lohan and with a Britney Spears soundtrack.

And I'm going to publish this now and then make moves on a second Minesweeper in a couple of minutes. I've got a pile of things to get through, but I don't want to keep this post hanging any longer.

Bell In Repo: Gone But Not Forgotten

[EDIT: Turns out that Mr. Tobin Bell has been approached to sing in Repo, not Ms. Kristen Bell. Ah well. You win some, you lose some... but the Dread Central story is still MIA. Any ideas why? Did anybody see it?]

A
story at Dread Central appears to have disappeared. At time of writing, the page is absent, and no headline is present on the front page but the RSS feed contains the story 'Bell Sings For Repo'.

I'm assuming Kristen Bell has signed to appear in Repo: The Genetic Opera but, for some reason, Dread Central have been made to retract their story.

Either that or they were hoaxed and have scampered away with their tale between their legs. Time will tell.

What's Up With Veronica Mars?

So, Veronica Mars is either a) cancelled, b) not cancelled and going ahead as planned or c) going ahead with a new format, jumping the story forward a few years and placing Veronica in the FBI.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it's c) and Rob Thomas, the series creator, is filming a trailer to pitch the new format to the network.

E! Online have retracted their earlier Veronica Mars is Cancelled! story and run a What's Up with Veronica Mars? sort of story instead. Seemed like a good idea, so... I thought I'd... er... borrow it. They went for a 1), 2), 3) format, I plumped for a), b), c) and shook the order up a bit.

Talking of a), b), c)... I can see either a) or c) being the correct answer - depending on the quality of the trailer - but I'd guess that b) is now out of the picture.

Veronica Mars was never picked up by any of the major channels here in the UK and was relegated to bad time slots on a crummy cable and satellite minor-player. We're stilling waiting for the DVDs too. I was only able to see two episodes, but they were certainly very good.

Roman - Finally!

Roman stars and is scripted by Lucky McKee, and is directed by Angela Bettis, and while not a direct sequel to May, as such, is a kind of 'companion piece'. The film also features key performances from Nectar Rose, seen in Serenity, and Kristen Bell, the title-star of Veronica Mars.

Today, Fangoria and Dread Central have both reported that the film will finally be released by Echo Bridge Entertainment at the end of March. Unfortunately, this will be direct to DVD, but fortunately, the film will come with a nice set of special features: a group commentary, deleted scenes, interviews and outtakes.

The trailer is online right now. Watch first, pre-order second.
